Overview
Markaz al-Sunnah Academy’s Madīnah Arabic Course is derived from and one of the core subjects within the world-famous curriculum taught at the Islamic University of Madīnah, which is largely based off the book series of Dr. V. ʿAbdur Raḥīm’s titled “دروس اللغة العربية لغير الناطقين بها”, famously known as the “Madīnah Arabic Book Series”.

Designed to facilitate the study of both classical and modern Arabic for non-native speakers, the series covers fundamental aspects like Arabic grammar, vocabulary, and practical conversation. This course will take a structured learning approach, where lessons have been crafted to build upon each other. It will equip students with the basic skills and knowledge that will enable them to begin reading, comprehending, and studying classical Arabic texts, most importantly the Qurʾān and Sunnah.


The course makes use of interactive live sessions, enhancing the learning experience by providing students with opportunities to engage in real-time discussions, ask questions, and receive immediate feedback. The aim of this course is to foster a dynamic and collaborative environment, helping learners apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts, ultimately promoting a solid foundation for further study of the Arabic language. 


Our lessons are customised and tailored to our students, with resources uniquely created by Markaz al-Sunnah.

Prerequisites:

It is expected that students should be able to read basic Arabic words with tashkīl (ḥarakāt; diacritical markings).


Objectives and learning outcomes of the course:

  • Complete the first book of Madīnah Arabic Book series by Dr. V ʿAbdur Raḥīm.
  • Understand and apply foundational principles of Arabic grammar systematically.
  • Acquire varied Arabic vocabulary through structured lessons and exercises.
  • Develop the proficiency to read and comprehend classical and modern Arabic texts at a beginner level.
  • Enhance listening and speaking skills through interactive activities and live sessions.
  • Lay a strong foundation for further academic pursuits in Arabic language and literature.

Connect with fellow students and build meaningful relationships whilst navigating a memorable journey together with the shared goal of seeking knowledge of the Qurʾān and Sunnah.

Workload:

  • Two live interactive lessons per week (up to 1.5 hours per session).
  • An assignment after each lesson that is due for the next lesson.

Scope and syllabus:
 Topics include:

  • The parts of speech — nouns, particles and verbs (past tense).
  • Nominal and verbal sentences.
  • Al-iʿrāb — case endings of nouns.
  • Al-bināʾ.
  • Definite and indefinite nouns.
  • Gender.
  • Iḍāfah.
  • Naʿt and manʿūt.
  • Duals and plurals.

 

Method of assessment:
 50% - Written paper.
 30% - Oral exam.
 10% - Assignments.
 5% - Attendance and punctuality.
 5% - Good manners and etiquette.
